A pub in Palmers Green is one of 32 that have been up for sale by JD Wetherspoon.

The Alfred Herring in Green Lanes is the biggest pub in the area and has been open since 2006. It is named after a local First World War soldier who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroic action in France in 1918.

The only other pub on this stretch of Green Lanes is The Fox, which has been closed for several years but has now been refurbished and is available to let.

The lease at The Alfred Herring expires in July 2040. JD Wetherspoon says it will remain open until a sale of the leasehold is agreed.

Paul Breen, a director at Savills which is handling the sale of the pubs, said: “Following the success of our earlier marketing campaigns for JD Wetherspoon we are delighted to be launching these 32 properties to the market. These venues are well configured and fitted to a high standard which will make them appealing to a broad range of potential buyers.”

On its disposals website, JD Wetherpoon said in a statement: “This represents a rare opportunity to acquire substantial, landmark public houses with a high standard of fit out in high profile locations.”
