Local artists are being invited to submit their ideas for a new mural at Enfield Chase Station.

Arts group Hive Curates, in conjunction with The Enfield Society, is looking to commission a local artist or artist group to create the large mural on the northbound platform of the Hertford Loop Line station – with help from the local community.

The project has been made possible thanks to a grant from the Department for Transport as part of the ‘Your Station, Your Community’ fund being delivered locally by rail firm Great Northern.

The artwork at Enfield Chase Station will create a “unique and memorable welcome” to both the station and to the wider area – “celebrating and promoting the history and heritage” of Enfield Town.

It will be inspired by Enfield as a market town and town centre, by its historical landmarks, industry, innovations and its people, while referencing the local railway heritage.

The idea is that people passing through on a train or alighting at Enfield Chase will have a taster of the street scene nearby.

Chantelle Purcell, co-founder of Hive Curates, said: “We are delighted to be part of this project to commission a new landmark for Enfield Chase Station. This unique opportunity has the potential to reach thousands if not millions of people each year.

“We hope the artwork will capture the imagination of future commuters and local communities, installing a greater sense of pride for Enfield Chase Station.”

The successful artist will be encouraged to run at least two engagement opportunities for local residents to help inform the artwork. The closing date for submissions is Sunday, 3rd March.
