Basketball, £1 children’s swimming sessions, gym tasters and circuit training among activities being offered

Local residents are invited to discover a new sport, get active and celebrate the 2026 Commonwealth Games during a weekend of free and low-cost activities at local leisure centres.
On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th, four GLL-run leisure centres across Enfield will host a Commonwealth Games-inspired open weekend.
GLL, which manages the leisure centres on behalf of Enfield Council and under its brand name Better, has partnered with Team England to give people of all ages the chance to try a wide range of sports and fitness activities.
The event is open to both members and non-members.
At Edmonton Leisure Centre there will be women-only weightlifting, basketball, swim safety, gym taster sessions, circuit training and soft play.
At Southbury Leisure Centre, there will be £1 kids’ swimming, martial arts, gymnastics, water safety, basketball, gym sessions, circuits classes, arts and crafts, face painting, soft play, bouncy castle and NHS health checks.
At Albany Leisure Centre in Enfield Wash, there will be £1 kids’ swimming, table tennis, Pilates, dance fitness, circuit training and CPR demos.
At Southgate Leisure Centre, there will be £1 kids’ swimming, jiu-jitsu, group cycle, arts and crafts, massage and face painting.
Vishal Karia, a partnership manager for GLL, says: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Team England to celebrate the 2026 Commonwealth Games by giving local people the chance to try something new for free.
“Whether you’ve always wanted to learn a new sport, get back into exercise or simply enjoy an active day out with family and friends, there’s something for everyone across the weekend. We hope as many local residents as possible will come along, have a go and discover what’s available at their local Better leisure centre.”
Some sessions must be booked in advance due to limited spaces.
