London Overground route closing for two weekends in September

All Weaver Line stations across Enfield and Haringey boroughs will be closed on the weekends of 19th-20th and 26th-27th September

Enfield’s London Overground route will be shut down for engineering works over two weekends next month.

Network Rail has announced it will be carrying out essential overhead line and structure renewals between Bethnal Green and Enfield Town and Cheshunt on the Weaver Line.

It means all Weaver Line stations across Enfield and Haringey boroughs will be closed on the weekends of 19th-20th September and 26th-27th September.

The works aim to “help to maintain a safe, reliable and resilient railway for passengers” according to Network Rail.

This includes carrying out extensive overhead line renewals, replacing ageing wires, structures and concrete bases, reducing the risk of future faults and disruption; replacing sections of worn-out track north of Turkey Street; carrying out essential maintenance such as clearing vegetation and inspections; and preparing for future platform improvements at Seven Sisters Station.

London Overground services will not run between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town on the affected weekends. Rail replacement bus services will be in operation during these closures.

People travelling to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Spurs match against fellow Premier League strugglers Aston Villa on Saturday, 19th September, or the Big Bang concert on Saturday, 26th September, will need to make alternative transport arrangements.

Joe Kennedy, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “This work is part of our ongoing programme to renew and maintain the railway between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt/Enfield Town, helping to keep the route reliable and fit for the future.

“Bringing this work together over two weekends means our teams can carry out a significant amount of work safely and efficiently, while avoiding the need for further closures, and we’ll work with our partners to minimise disruption.

“I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience while we carry out this important work.”

We appreciate that the closures will cause some disruption and are working closely with our partners to minimise the impact on passengers.

“Customers travelling on the affected weekends should plan ahead, check their journey before setting off and allow extra time to travel.”
