Man from Hadley Wood charged with stabbing police officer

It follows a series of dawn raids on Tuesday targeting organised crime suspects

A Hadley Wood man has been charged with stabbing a police officer who was taking part in a large-scale series of dawn raids targeting organised crime suspects.

Charles Charalambous, aged 56 and of Claremont Road, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) to resist arrest.

He was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Yesterday (Tuesday 29th) the victim was executing a warrant as part of a wider operation targeting a suspected organised crime group, when he was stabbed in the leg. He was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

It was initially reported that the stabbing took place in Cockfosters.

Two other men arrested as part of the same wider operation have also been charged overnight with possession of offensive weapons. All three men remain under investigation as part of the wider investigation and have been bailed for those offences.

A total of 18 people were arrested as part of Tuesday’s operation. The offences for which they were arrested are complex in nature and require extensive investigative work and the detailed examination of evidence both before and after the arrest stage.

All have been bailed while the investigation continues.
