New CPZ proposed in Edmonton Green

The controlled parking zone has been designed to restrict parking by commuters using Edmonton Green Station, reports Grace Howarth, Local Democracy Reporter

Plans have been put forward for a new controlled parking zone (CPZ) in Edmonton Green.

Enfield Council is consulting on a new CPZ which, if introduced, would see Sunnyside Road (north, east and south) as well as Leonard Road become areas where only residents with a permit will be allowed to park.

A consultation on the scheme was launched in May and residents are now being asked to share any comments via a survey by a deadline of Sunday, 22nd June.

The scheme, if it goes ahead, will operate from 9am-6.30pm, from Monday to Sunday.

The council says the CPZ is “needed” because streets near Edmonton Green Station experience “high parking demand, particularly from commuters using the station”.

On its website, the council states: “While several CPZs already exist around the station, Sunnyside and Leonard roads remain among the few areas with unrestricted parking.

“Domestic demand for parking space is prone to exceed capacity in narrow streets with closely spaced houses, creating competition for limited space.

“A permit system can help by deterring parking by station users, tackling obstructive parking at junctions; deterring households with numerous cars or vans taking up excessive space in the street; and clearing out abandoned or seldom-used vehicles.”

The survey asks residents if they think the proposed CPZ will “deliver benefits” and whether they agreed with the times proposed.

The council said residents would be told “after summer” whether or not the scheme will be taken forward.
