The five-storey block of nine flats is set to be built on a car park near Enfield Chase Station

Revised plans for a five-storey block of flats on a disused car park near Enfield Chase Station have been granted planning permission by Enfield Council.
The nine new homes would be built on the site of a car park in Gladbeck Way, off Windmill Hill, which had previously been used by office workers. It does not include the larger adjacent car park used by customers of Waitrose.
A similar scheme had previously been approved in 2022 but had to be ditched as the developer realised it would block access to the Waitrose car park during its construction. The new plans also include a commercial unit on the ground floor.
A planning statement submitted by Alan Cox Associates states: “The scheme provides a high-quality block of nine flats, contributing positively to local housing targets and providing office space for the local economy.
“The internal accommodation has been amended based on the pre-app feedback and we believe the flats are well designed and well proportioned for urban living. A third of the flats are family sized units with amenity space exceeding that required of flats, and benefiting from a parking space.”
It adds: “The commercial use of the ground floor means that there is a more active frontage to the building than was previously approved. In addition to bringing additional employment to the area, having active use of the ground floor is beneficial to the urban environment and has a positive impact on the street scape.”
No designated affordable housing is proposed, although this would not normally be expected for this size of development.
