More than 250 plants installed alongside new seating areas carved from oak trees
A new ‘pocket park’ has been installed in Southgate.
The space beside Southgate Station has been transformed from an area of plain grass to a space with extra seating – carved from tree logs – and more than 250 plants.
Staff from Enfield Council’s ‘Journeys and Places’ team recently delivered the new facility with help from Palmers Green High School pupils, members of Friends of Enfield Chase, and cabinet member for climate action and placemaking, Sabri Ozaydin.
The pocket park features natural felled oak trees from Epping Forest that have been carved into seating units and stepping logs, which include text and icons that celebrate the significance of Enfield Chase, the historic royal hunting ground from which Southgate takes its name, having been the southern entrance.
Over the past couple of years the council has worked alongside the community to design a space “that it is more welcoming, safer, greener and has places to sit and rest”.
