Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust looks set to be “acquired” by newly-launched North London NHS Foundation Trust

Two North London mental health bodies have announced they plan to merge – just months after a previous merger was finalised.

North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) and Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed plans to “explore” a merger, which would see NLFT “acquire” the smaller trust based in Camden.

In a statement put out by both bodies yesterday (Tuesday 1st), they said: “The transaction will significantly enhance and strengthen children and adult mental health services in North London.

“We hope this transaction will also end uncertainty and increase opportunities for valued service users, staff and students at the Tavistock and Portman and establish North London Foundation Trust as a leader in mental health research and education.

“Both parties intend to complete the process by 1st April 2026 and focus on creating improved care quality and stability for patients, students and staff.”

NLFT was launched last November after being created from a merger of two previous bodies; Barnet, Enfield and Haringey (BEH) and Camden and Islington mental health trusts.
