Facility aims to help children and adults with learning difficulties
A ‘sensory space’ has been launched at Enfield Town Library to help children and adults with learning difficulties discover more about the world around them.
The facility, created by Enfield Council’s library services team, employs the latest in sensory technology to provide “a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment” specifically designed to help both children and adults develop through sensory play.
The space includes an interactive projected floor, activity panels, an infinity mirror, colour changing mood lights and a projector TV.
James Baxter, who works at Enfield Town Library, said: “This use of light, sound, colour and texture can have a number of positive benefits for those who have learning difficulties, developmental disabilities or sensory processing impairments, ultimately helping them learn to interact with the world around them in a safe environment.
“For example, the tactile wall, which is made up of bright colours and a variety of textures, helps with touch and tactile development, while the activity panels, with their interactive moving parts, helps with dexterity, manipulation and motor skills.”
James added that the space was “much needed” for local people and would now be available for the public to use during allocated sensory space sessions, as well as being available to book for private use.
