Tennis club celebrates prestigious award one year after surviving closure threat

Vicars Moor LTC in Winchmore Hill has won the Middlesex Club of the Year Award 2024

Vicars Moor LTC celebrate their ‘club of the year’ award

A Winchmore Hill tennis club has won the prestigious Lawn Tennis Association Middlesex Club of the Year Award 2024.

Vicars Moor Lawn Tennis Club, based in Sherbrook Gardens, will celebrate its 100th year in 2026 and is embarking on an extensive refurbishment programme covering the courts, floodlights and clubhouse facilities after recently surviving a threat to its future.

Vicars Moor has men’s and women’s teams regularly competing in the Middlesex Premier League, but the club also encourages social playing members, from aged two to pensioners.

The club won the 2024 award for its “comprehensive and fully inclusive tennis and social activities” as well as its community involvement.

There is coaching available for all tennis abilities, including the popular rusty racket and improver squads for those returning to tennis. With a hugely popular junior coaching programme, monthly family cardio tennis, numerous adult and junior teams, tournaments, and a full range of social events throughout the year, the club provides a “vibrant tennis and social community”.

Run by volunteers, the club is recognised as an ‘asset of community value’ and has forged strong partnerships with six local schools, including Fern House – a school focusing on children with special educational needs – and also supports local charities including North London Hospice, Re-Engage, and North Enfield Foodbank.
