Tree falls on Weaver Line train in Enfield during morning rush hour

Passengers were forced to evacuate via a level crossing after the incident, which has left the damaged train stuck on the line, reports James Cracknell

A large tree fell and struck a train approaching Enfield Town Station on the Weaver Line this morning.

The incident happened just north of the Abbey Road footbridge at around 8.25am this morning (Monday 10th) and saw the train having to stop suddenly, coming to a halt at the Lincoln Road level crossing.

The Dispatch understands that the tree struck and damaged one of the pantographs connecting the train to the overhead electrical power cables.

Passengers onboard the train were forced to evacuate via the tracks, but fortunately the proximity to the level crossing meant there was an easy exit route for them.

Although the tree itself has now been removed, as of 11am the train remains unable to move as it can no longer draw power. It will remain stuck until either another train can arrive to tow it away, or the pantograph itself can be fixed.

Trains on the Weaver Line are currently not stopping at either Enfield Town or Bush Hill Park stations as a result, although there remains a good service from Edmonton Green and the rest of the line.

The National Rail website states that the disruption will continue until 1pm at least, but it seems likely to continue into the afternoon rush hour.

In its advice for passengers the website states: “Tickets will be accepted on London Buses via any reasonable route.

“Services between London Liverpool Street and Enfield Town will be diverted to run between London Liverpool Street and Cheshunt, running non-stop between Edmonton Green and Cheshunt.

“Bush Hill Park and Enfield Town will not be served.

“Services between London Liverpool Street and Cheshunt/Chingford will operate as normal.”
