Seven burglaries took place over the last month at banks and building societies in Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest and Waltham Cross

Two men have been arrested and charged by Metropolitan Police officers investigating a series of burglaries at banks and building societies in Enfield and elsewhere.

Flying squad officers launched an investigation into seven overnight burglaries at banks and building societies between 10th January and 4th February.

The branches raided were the Nationwide in Church Street, Enfield Town, plus Nationwide and Barclays branches in Haringey, Waltham Forest and Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire. On six occasions the suspects made off with a quantity of cash.

An overnight burglary at a restaurant in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, on Thursday, 1st February was also linked to the series.

Met detectives were able to identify a car linked to the burglaries even though different cloned plates were used. Following an extensive and painstaking investigation, two men were arrested on Friday, 9th February in South Tottenham. A sledge hammer and other tools were recovered from the car linked to the two men which was parked nearby.

Both men, aged in their 40s, were charged on Saturday (10th) with conspiracy to burgle and theft offences. They will appear in custody at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 8th March.
