Yet another burst pipe in Enfield sees hospital water supplies hit again

Another major water leak in Enfield is impacting supplies to people’s homes – with Chase Farm Hospital again hit.

The hospital in The Ridgeway was forced to rely on mobile water tankers to keep the taps running late yesterday (Tuesday 1st) for the second time in as many weeks, but has since been reconnected to the mains supply.

The latest major leak affecting a Thames Water main in Enfield began on Monday (31st August) when a burst pipe was reported in Enfield Road, near World’s End.

Supplies to homes in the area were initially cut off entirely, but Thames Water was able to restore supplies by 3.45pm on Monday by diverting water from elsewhere. Low water pressure has continued ever since, however, and traffic diversions remain in place as engineers continue to work on fixing the leak.

By Monday night, Thames Water reported that “the repair is complex and requires a deep excavation to safely reach the damaged section of pipe, as well as specialist equipment and teams to carry out the work”.

The repair work continued throughout yesterday (Tuesday 1st) with Chase Farm Hospital later being impacted. Thames Water reported this morning (Wednesday 2nd) that the hospital “has now returned to its normal mains water supply” but that “tankers will remain available in the area as a precaution”.

In its latest update this morning, the privately-owned utility company added: “This has been a complex repair due to the nature of the damage, and our teams are scheduled to carry out the final repair overnight tonight. We expect this work to bring the incident to a close while maintaining supplies for customers throughout the repair.”

Chase Farm Hospital was forced to cancel routine operations during the water leak chaos which lasted five days last month and affected thousands of people.

After that fiasco, Enfield North MP Feryal Clark slammed Thames Water for its “appalling” handling of the crisis.
