Talented athletes who train at Better-run leisure venues in Enfield have been invited to apply for part of a £1.4million charitable funding pot.

The GLL Sport Foundation (GSF), launched 17 years ago by Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL) which now runs Enfield Council’s leisure centres under its Better brand, is the UK’s largest independent athlete support programme.

It offers assistance in the form of financial support, free access to sport facilities, physiotherapy, lifestyle mentoring and mental health support.

Anthony Bryan, who lives in Enfield Town and works as a fitness instructor at Southbury Leisure Centre, said: “I have been a GSF-funded athlete for the last ten years. The help from GLL Sport Foundation has helped enormously with the cost of training, kit, travel and rehab, which all add up quickly!

“Thanks to the invaluable support, I am now a world record holder for the fastest marathon with my disability. If you are a local athlete looking to take that next step in your sporting career, I highly recommend applying to GLL Sports Foundation to help you reach your goals.”

To date, GSF, has so contributed over £13m to help over 24,000 athletes on their sporting journey. Supported athletes have excelled in major competitions and have gained over 86 Olympic and Paralympic medals, including Paris 2024 gold medal-winning triathlete Alex Yee as well as boxer Anthony Joshua and diver Tom Daley.

The awards are open now and close on 20th February. Applicants can apply online:
