Carina Moscattini from Community Help Point Scheme on the difference it makes in the borough
Enfield’s Community Help Point Scheme (CHiPS) is a network of temporary safe havens for children, young adults, and community members who might feel vulnerable while out in the community.
The scheme is simple yet impactful; participating locations provide a safe space where individuals can seek refuge. Staff at these locations are trained to listen and to provide reassurance and help, whether that means allowing someone to sit and wait until they feel secure to continue their journey or making a phone call to get assistance from someone.
Staff can also give someone directions on how to get to their chosen destination or call the police, medical or social care teams.
Local businesses have embraced the scheme, recognising the value it brings to the community. To date, over 200 local businesses, schools, cafes, and libraries across the borough have joined CHiPS, offering their support in various ways. To locate a CHiPS point, residents can look out for our window sticker.
We have recently updated the system with a new website that includes all information on the scheme, as well as a customised Google Map displaying all current CHiPS locations.
I am so proud of the CHiPS team for their hard work and dedication following the major update. We are now calling more local businesses and amenities to get involved. Residents have embraced the scheme and we are thrilled to hear young people spreading the word.
By joining CHiPS, you are not just offering a safe space; you are actively contributing to the wellbeing and safety of our community. Your participation can make a significant difference in someone’s day and potentially their life. CHiPS actively encourages more community interaction, opportunities for local businesses to have a positive impact on the community and increased footfall within local establishments.
CHiPS is free to join and membership includes DBS checks for or or two main staff members, training and the window sticker.
