An under-13s girls team representing Enfield borough have won a gold medal at this year’s London Youth Games.

More than 200 young people from across London came together last month at Jack Carter Pavillion in Redbridge for a chance to compete against their peers.

With 21 teams fiercely competing for a podium place, Enfield played brilliantly throughout the day, and the pitches were surrounded with support from parents and teammates.

The London Youth Games Foundation is a charity that has been creating “life-changing opportunities through sport” for young Londoners since 1977.

The inclusion of football at the London Youth Games has long provided a platform for future careers, with alumni including the likes of Raheem Sterling (Brent), Rio Ferdinand (Southwark), Chloe Kelly (Ealing) and Alex Scott (Tower Hamlets).

Grace Alleyne, Enfield’s team manager, said: “I am absolutely ecstatic to win the trophy for the U13 girls football competition.

“The girls were picked from open trials in April and have worked so hard in training sessions as a team towards the event, their performance on the day was truly remarkable!”

The London Youth Games Foundation supports more than 10,000 young people across London each year, delivering opportunities across 37 sports for all 32 boroughs as well as the City of London.
