Free NHS health advice event in Edmonton

Enfield Unity Primary Care Network is organising the event for people who may not have visited their GP in a long time, reports Clara Aberneithie

A free NHS health and wellbeing event will be held in Edmonton next month.

At Edmonton Green Library’s community garden from 1pm-3pm on Monday, 11th August, adults who haven’t visited their GP for a while can find out more about how to better access care services.

The “relaxed setting” will allow visitors to have more time for conversations than may be possible at a regular GP appointment. The hope is it will help professionals to signpost visitors in the right direction.

The event is being organised by Enfield Unity Primary Care Network, a group of 17 primary care sites around the borough.

A spokesperson said: “The people who will benefit the most from this event are those who are experiencing difficulties in getting the healthcare or lifestyle advice that they need, whether this be language barriers, cultural barriers or socioeconomic disparity.”

Organisers hope that the event will help reduce the barriers to accessing primary healthcare, “creating a more equitable provision across the borough”.

The event will offer on-the-spot checks for hypertension and diabetes. Other specialist health services on offer at the event include muscular skeletal advice, diabetes information, cancer screening, diet advice, talking therapies, blood pressure checks, social prescribing, stop smoking advice and help registering with a GP.
