Staff from North Middlesex Hospital nominated for this year’s NHS Parliamentary Awards enjoyed afternoon tea in the House of Commons this week as a special thank you from local MPs for their work.

The gathering was hosted by Enfield North MP Feryal Clark, who is also Labour’s shadow minister for primary care and patient safety, with Haringey MPs Catherine West and David Lammy also attending.

Established in 2018, the NHS Parliamentary Awards recognises the exemplary contributions of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector. MPs can nominate an individual or organisation for the awards and, although there were no winners from North Mid, Deborah Quinton was named as a finalist for ‘volunteer of the year’ for her efforts contacting patients about their appointments during the pandemic “always reassuring and offering support to patients and their families”.

All the other individual and group nominees from North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust also made the trip to Westminster for the celebration. They included Melanie Oghene and the high intensity users team, nominated for ‘excellence in urgent and emergency care’; Hazel Manzano, for the ‘nursing and midwifery’ award; the paediatric diabetes team for the ‘health equalities’ award; and Jean McDonald, for the ‘lifetime achievement’ award.

The event also served as a timely opportunity for North Mid staff to engage with local MPs in conversations discussing the work being undertaken at North Mid.

Feryal Clark said: “It was my pleasure to host the heroic staff at North Middlesex University Hospital in parliament.

“The event allowed us members of parliament to thank the staff for all their hard work and build on our existing relationships. The stories we heard throughout were inspiring, and the day served as a timely reminder about how amazing our NHS staff really are.

“I look forward to visiting the hospital in the coming weeks to discuss their work further.”
