Priya Purryag on why she launched a local branch of a languages programme for toddlers

I live in Enfield with my husband Ravi and my six-year-old son, Rohan, and when I came across Lingotot I knew it would provide me with the perfect opportunity to share my passion and open up the world of modern languages to children living in my local community.

Lingotot is an award-winning languages programme, delivered to more than 20,000 children across the UK each week. It runs classes through community groups, nurseries and schools, teaching languages such as French, Spanish, German, Arabic and even Mandarin Chinese.

I enjoyed a successful career in the world of banking and more recently in the charitable sector, but after the birth of my son I wanted something that combined my passion for languages with the flexibility needed for family life. With Lingotot, I can use my experience to help children to learn new languages and skills from a young age. The classes are packed full of songs, games, stories, crafts and most importantly, they are fun.

To celebrate the launch of Lingotot Southgate and give local families the chance to experience a morning of interactive fun, I recently hosted a launch party at KB02 in Palmers Green. Children participated in a ‘Little Lingotots’ French and Spanish taster class and expanded their learning with a range of language activities.

The event was a resounding success and I was overwhelmed by the hugely positive response from my local community. It was wonderful to see young children start to learn new vocabulary and actions right from their very first lesson. I hope to see many of these children continue their learning by attending Lingotot Southgate’s classes.
