Enfield borough continues to grow its reputation as a hub for London’s film industry, reports James Cracknell
A major film studios complex has been launched in Enfield – the fourth to open in the borough since 2020.
London Film Studios (LFS), where a number of music videos and TV adverts have already been filmed, overlooks the River Lea and is being supported by a business loan fund designed to “power industrial growth” in the Lea Valley.
The “high tech” Brimsdown complex features five fully-stocked stages, with additional units opening in 2023. It is owned by Danny Hayward, co-founder of SHL London, a film services company supplying lighting and power equipment to the film industry.
Danny said: “London Film Studios was an obvious and natural extension of the SHL brand and I am proud of the truly unique space we have created.
“It’s an exciting time for the film and television industry and there has never been a better time to introduce LFS to the market.
“Ultimately, we believed that SHL Studios could do better and London Film Studios is the result of that ambition.”
LFS has been helped by Productive Valley Fund, a business development fund backed by Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest councils. The £2.7m fund offers a package of financial business support, including help with finding premises, business planning and financial advice, and help with recruitment.
London Film Studios follows the opening of two sites in Enfield Lock in 2020 and 2021 – OMA Film Studios and OMA:X Film Studios – which are run by Location Collective, and a site at Meridian Water called Troubadour Meridian Water Studios, which was opened in 2021 by Troubadour Theatres.
Last year Helena Mackenzie, head of inward investment and business development at Film London, described Enfield as “a new jewel in our crown and a great example of the bond between industry and London infrastructure”.
