A wide police cordon remains around the pub in Enfield Wash where a man was shot dead last night, reports James Cracknell

Detectives are continuing to examine the crime scene at an Enfield Wash pub where a man was shot dead last night.
Hertford Road, between the Turkey Street and Ordnance Road junctions, has been closed for several hours today (Tuesday 20th) as the investigation into the fatal shooting at The Sun & Woolpack Pub continues.
A 35-year-old man, not yet named, was shot and killed at the pub at around 9.30pm on Monday (19th). Police have released a CCTV image of a suspect but have not yet made any arrests.
The Dispatch visited the scene this afternoon. Several bunches of flowers had been left on the bridge over the Turkey Brook in tribute to the victim, while detectives were seen in protective clothing carrying bags of evidence into a van marked ‘forensics’.
No-one who works at the late-opening shops or takeaways surrounding the pub said that they had heard any gunshots last night, instead only becoming aware of the incident as the police arrived.

Gokhan Dursun, owner of Oz Royal Kebab, said: “Customers were coming in telling me there were police outside and the pub was taped up.
“I think there needs to be more CCTV around here, put some more cameras up. They don’t have enough on Hertford Road.”
Silver Service Café, on the corner with Ordnance Road, was not open at the time of the incident but owner Inan Bayeren told the Dispatch that the shooting came as “no surprise” to him.
While there has been no suggestion from police that last night’s killing was drug-related or connected to gangs, Inan said: “The police know there are drug dealers all around here, people complain about it, they report it to police. It is a very unsafe area.
“The police know where these people [drug dealers] are but they wait for something to happen so they can catch the big one. They should be doing something about it before now – it is too late.”

A local resident, Jonathan Archer, also raised concerns around drugs. He told the Dispatch: “There is a quiet undercurrent of crime around here. There are people drug dealing, it is happening in the open, it is not hidden.”
The CCTV image released by the Metropolitan Police shows a person who looks like they could be wearing a disguise, including potentially a wig of red curly hair. While the grainy shot is not clear enough to see if they are a man or woman, they do appear to be white.
No arrests have been made and detectives would like to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist their enquiries.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting CAD 7050/19OCT26, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
Chief Superintendent Anna McCartney, who leads policing in Enfield, said: “We recognise the concern local people will have and can reassure them that our officers are working urgently to identify and trace those responsible.
“Serious violence has no place in our community, and the Met remains fully committed to tackling gun crime. We are determined to establish exactly what happened and provide much needed answers for those affected by this tragic incident.”
