As well as the “high-end” sauna and steam cabins, other improvements to the health suite include an incorporated shower with water fountain and redesigned layout

A new sauna and steam cabins have been launched at Southgate Leisure Centre as part of a major upgrade.
The “high-end” facility was officially opened on Saturday (8th) by Edward Smith, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for council assets and culture, and is now open to members.
Members of the leisure centre will now be able to take advantage of the “many health benefits” of sauna and steam, including “improved blood flow, muscle relief, stress reduction, lower blood pressure and improved sleep”.
In addition to the new sauna and steam cabins, improvements include new tiling, feature lighting, an incorporated shower with water fountain and redesigned layout.
It comes a year after Southgate’s gym benefited from a major upgrade.
Like the council’s other sport and leisure facilities, Southgate Leisure Centre is managed by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), through its ‘Better’ brand.
Vishal Karia, GLL’s partnership manager, said: “Last August, with council investment we completed a £750,000 refurbishment to the gym facilities at Southgate Leisure Centre and we are delighted that the health suite is now up to the same high standard.
“This refurbishment is designed to enhance both the facilities and the overall customer experience, giving our members a more modern, comfortable and enjoyable wellness experience.”

The new health suite has a maximum capacity of 16 people and booking is essential.
Cllr Smith added: “I was delighted to visit Southgate Leisure Centre to see the comprehensive, council-funded refurbishment of the centre’s steam room and sauna, that has been transformed into a modern health suite.
“I’d encourage our residents to visit the centre to use the high-quality facility which is a calming environment that promotes wellbeing and relaxation and will help users unwind and recover after exercise.
“Our investment in the facility includes the installation of new mood lighting systems and new wall and floor tiling throughout, providing a fresh, contemporary appearance that creates a luxurious spa-like atmosphere.
“We will continue to work closely with GLL to ensure the borough’s leisure centres are regularly maintained and improved.”
