Trent Park Running Club held its annual ‘Track Mile’ event at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium last week – and christened the newly upgraded track at the venue.

The event brings together both junior and senior runners to take part in a series of one-mile races with awards being presented to the winners afterwards.

Enfield Council has recently refurbished the track and Chas Taylor, team manager at Trent Park Running Club, thanked Conservative councillor Ruby Sampson for her efforts in lobbying for the work to take place.

Chas said: “The track was in superb condition following the upgrade which has recently taken place. All the athletes were very complimentary about the improvements to the track.

“The club were very pleased to welcome councillor Ruby Sampson who watched many of the races and presented trophies to the junior and senior winners. Cllr Sampson had been instrumental in securing the funding from Enfield Council for the refurbishment of the track.

“We are very pleased to see the track in such brilliant condition and being enjoyed by such a happy group of athletes.”

The winners of the one mile races on the night were Will Douglas in the senior male category, Kat Alpe in the senior female, Robin Greenwood in the junior male and Jagna Falkowska in the junior female. Will even set a new club record time of 4.26.43, eclipsing the 4.32.89 set by Nick Sturge ten years ago at the same event.

Cllr Sampson said: “It was a pleasure to attend Trent Park Running Club’s annual Track Mile event. Queen Elizabeth II Stadium is an asset to Enfield so I was very pleased to work on behalf of Trent Park Running Club to secure the funding from Enfield Council for repairs to the track.

“The improvements made to the track will help the physical and mental health of the borough. It was brilliant to see so many runners of all ages participating in the races. I’d also like to thank Chas, team Manager at Trent Running Club, for organising such a great event and providing such amazing community spirit in the borough.”
