Winchmore Hill scout to represent UK on world stage

Abi Elkins will be volunteering at the 26th World Scout Jamboree in Gdansk, Poland, next year

A scout from Winchmore Hill has been selected to represent the UK as part of a team delivering the World Scout Jamboree in Poland next year.

Abi Elkins will work alongside Scouts from nearly every country in the world, helping to deliver a “truly international experience” and share skills for life on a global stage.

Held every four years in a different country, the World Scout Jamboree is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people, aged between 14 and 17, who are involved with scouting.

The 26th World Scout Jamboree will take place in Gdansk, Poland, in 2027, bringing together more than 50,000 scouts from across the world for an “unforgettable celebration of international friendship, adventure and global citizenship”.

UK Scouts has selected a team of 600 volunteers to help make the event happen.

After learning she was one of them, Abi said: “I love getting involved and helping out, especially with catering, so I’m excited to put my skills to use as part of the international service team.

“This will be my first time travelling abroad with Scouts, and while I’m not sure exactly what to expect, that’s all part of the adventure. I’m looking forward to meeting people from different cultures, making new friends, and being part of a global Scout community that gives everyone a place to belong.”

As part of the international service team, Abi will help bring the World Scout Jamboree to life, taking on roles such as running outdoor activities, supporting cultural exchanges and helping deliver large-scale events.

UK Scouts chief Dwayne Fields said: “Congratulations to Abi and all the UK volunteers heading to the World Scout Jamboree in Poland. Opportunities like this are what Scouting is all about, bringing people together, building confidence, and showing young people what’s possible when they step outside their comfort zone.

“The jamboree is more than an event, it’s a chance to connect with the world, to learn from different cultures, and to come back inspired to make a difference at home. I’ve no doubt Abi will grab this experience with both hands and make the most of every moment.”
