A man who illegally dumped a large fridge in Edmonton has been prosecuted by Enfield Council.

The council’s waste enforcement team studied footage from mobile CCTV cameras which showed Gheorge Florea, aged 44 and from Enfield, dumping a large white fridge from his white van in Kenninghall Road on 14th January 2025.

At Highbury Corner Magistrates Court last month, Florea pleaded guilty to breaching Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

A judge ordered him to pay a fine of £500, a contribution to the council’s costs of £500 and a victim surcharge of £200, a total of £1,200.

Maria Alexandrou, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “This case sends out a clear message to those who think they can dump their rubbish on Enfield’s streets.

“We will find you and we will prosecute you through the courts. There is no place for this antisocial and illegal behaviour in our borough.

“We offer residents a free bulky waste collection from their doorstep, and two facilities for the disposal of household waste are available at Barrowell Green and Edmonton Eco Park, so there is never any excuse to fly tip rubbish.”

The Conservative-led council is also conducting a review of waste collections in the borough, with a view to reintroducing weekly bin collections for the first time in seven years.
