An Enfield social enterprise has launched a crowdfunder to help it train “the next generation of young mechanics”.

The Family Bike Club, which operates from a unit at Enfield Chase Station, is aiming to raise £14,500 through a crowdfunder which will also help support a series of family-friendly group bike rides around the borough next year.

Bike fanatic Luke Balnave, who launched the community interest company last year, explained: “We want to train the next generation of Enfield young resident mechanics, alongside a comprehensive calendar of purposefully slow group rides for the most reluctant of never-cyclists!

“We have a tentative partnership with Forty Hall Farm to use one of their awesome barns for the larger mechanic sessions but we would be very open to transporting the show anywhere else in the borough where it was believed younger residents would reap most value.”

People who support the crowdfunder, which is being match-funded by Sport England, will receive rewards depending on how much they contribute. They include winter bike servicing and maintenance masterclasses.
