Payam Ezad Panah introduces Shaolin Temple Martial Arts and Culture Centre in Enfield

Martial arts is much more than just a physical activity – it’s a holistic journey that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.
At our multi award-winning school in Percival Road, Enfield, we offer a unique blend of Chinese martial arts, including kung fu, wushu, tai chi, qigong, Sanda kickboxing, and the rare art of bingdao (Chinese swordsmanship).
We cater to the entire family, with a range of specialised programmes running throughout the week, providing opportunities for everyone from children as young as four to adults of all ages and abilities.
Chinese martial arts have captured the world’s imagination, appearing in films from classic Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies to modern Marvel blockbusters. These films showcase the incredible skill, artistry, and power of Chinese martial arts, inspiring countless individuals to train and aspire to similar levels of mastery.
Did you know that Jet Li was a top wushu competitor before becoming a movie star? Similarly, many of our students train with the goal of becoming stunt performers, coaches, or even professional competitors, and our school is equipped to support these ambitions.
Our children’s programmes are specially designed to support the development of young martial artists. We offer a variety of classes tailored to different age groups and skill levels.
These include ‘little dragons’, for our youngest students aged from four to six years. This programme focuses on basic martial arts skills, co-ordination and discipline, through fun and engaging activities. ‘Rising warriors’ is our programme aimed at children aged from seven to ten and builds on foundational techniques, introducing more complex movements.
‘Shaolin warriors’ is for children aged from eleven to 14 and emphasises traditional Shaolin kung fu and modern wushu techniques, developing strength, focus and self-discipline, introducing weapons and sparring.
‘Wushu heroes’ is designed for those keen on the acrobatic and dynamic elements of wushu, enhancing flexibility, speed and agility, preparing students for competitive training. Finally, ‘Sanda and tai chi’ is a programme offering both high-intensity kickboxing and calming tai chi practices, as well as modern tai chi for competition.
In addition to these, we are proud to be one of the few schools in the UK offering training in bingdao, the ancient Chinese art of swordsmanship.
Our school is led by a master coach with an extraordinary story. Shifu Yan Gui is a former refugee who overcame significant adversity to become national coach for Team GB in traditional wushu kung fu. His journey is inspiring, and his dedication to helping young people develop through martial arts is at the core of our school’s ethos.
We are also fortunate to have classes taught by a kung fu and tai chi champion, who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our younger students.
Our passion for teaching and commitment to nurturing each child’s potential ensures that all students receive the highest quality instruction in a supportive and positive environment. We are proud members of the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts (BCCMA) and we ensure that our school meets all regulatory standards, providing a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
Shaolin Temple also plays an active role in the community, collaborating with other clubs to organise local kung fu events. Our next competition will take place in Edmonton this November. Our focus is not just on creating champions in the sport, however, but on empowering individuals and transforming lives through martial arts.
