A Football Foundation grant of £550,000 has helped to “transform” the football pitch at Southbury Leisure Centre.

The new 3G pitch includes four sets of markings for different sized games, as well as new LED floodlights and fencing. The male and female changing rooms are also being refurbished.

Vishal Karia, partnership manager at Greenwich Leisure Ltd which manages Enfield Council’s leisure centres, said: “We are extremely pleased to unveil our new football pitch, which has been made possible due the generous support of the Football Foundation.

“Enfield Town Ladies FC and Middlesex FA are already using the new pitch, thanks to a partnership with Enfield Council’s ‘Active Enfield’ initiative. We are also planning to set up a recreational female football league at the weekend.”

Robert Sullivan, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with its partners – the Premier League, The FA, government and Sport England – to support projects like this across the country over the next decade to transform our grassroots game and unlock the power of pitches.”

The football pitch is shared with Kingsmead Secondary School.
