US-based author and lawyer giving talk in Enfield on her new book

A New York lawyer, author and motivational speaker who has written an acclaimed book about human trafficking is hosting a talk in Enfield Town.
Juanita Headley, who grew up in Enfield before moving to the United States, has been described as “a warrior on the front lines of fighting against the trafficking of young people” following her efforts as a volunteer attorney working on cases of sexual exploitation.
Juanita was herself subjected to sexual abuse by her stepfather between the ages of four and ten. Despite this childhood trauma she went on to become an author, lawyer and speaker on the issue of human trafficking.
Tonight (Thursday) Waterstones Enfield is hosting a talk at Enfield Town Library from Juanita Headley on the subject of her recent book, Can You Keep A Secret?, as well as an interactive presentation and book-signing in honour of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which is this Saturday.
Can You Keep A Secret? is filled with true stories and testimonies on the subject of trafficking, demonstrating how to identify, protect and safeguard people from sexual abuse and exploitation. Half of the profits from its sales are going towards the construction of safe houses in the Philippines.
Juanita said: “Everyone has secrets and, when it comes to talking to children about abuse, there needs to be so much more to the conversation, then the whole ‘good secrets, bad secrets’ topic.
“Can You Keep A Secret? is not just a book for parents and caregivers, it’s for absolutely everyone, young and old, to understand not just the topic of abuse and grooming, but also human trafficking, love and healthy relationships.
“Waterstones Enfield Town and the Enfield Town Library have enabled the facilitation of an education and empowerment talk that is suitable for secondary school aged children and above. You will have never heard a human trafficking talk delivered in the way it will be on Thursday evening.
“Prepare to be inspired.”
The event takes place tonight (Thursday) 6pm–8pm at Enfield Town Library.
