Lucy Woods invites opera fans to enjoy the group’s performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Sorcerer later this month

At Southgate Opera, one of North London’s premier amateur opera companies, we are thrilled to be performing Gilbert and Sullivan’s enchanting operetta The Sorcerer this month.

This delightful comic opera tells the story of love, magic and mayhem in an English village. When young Alexis Pointdextre employs a sorcerer to distribute a love potion at his engagement party, chaos ensues as the potion causes villagers to fall in love with the wrong people!

Packed with Gilbert’s trademark wit and Sullivan’s sparkling melodies, The Sorcerer promises magical entertainment for audiences of all ages.

This production is particularly special, as 2025 marks Southgate Opera’s 60^th anniversary. For six decades, our company has brought opera and operetta to North London, delighting audiences with fully-staged productions accompanied by a live orchestra.

Run by dedicated volunteers, Southgate Opera is also committed to supporting the community, with this production helping to raise funds for the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre in Enfield.

Performances will take place at Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar, from 12th-15th February, with evening shows at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
