Monthly screenings with post-show activities taking place as part of three-month pilot programme supported by Enfield Caribbean Association, reports Grace Howarth, Local Democracy Reporter

A new film club celebrating black cinema is launching at Dugdale Arts Centre.
Enfield Caribbean Association (ECA) has partnered with the Enfield Council-run Dugdale and The New Black Film Collective (TNBFC), an organisation that facilitates individuals and groups to screen black cinema.
The film club, which is a three-month pilot, is being funded via a £250 grant from TNBFC.
The Dugdale has offered its space for the monthly screenings and will split any profits made 50/50 with ECA.
ECA chair Oveta McInnis explained that post-show activities would be held to give audiences a chance to “dive deeper” on each film’s themes, including a cocktail happy hour, an art workshop, and a panel discussion.
Oveta said the ECA was “really fortunate” and “very excited” the Dugdale got involved when approached about the monthly screenings.
She said: “We’re doing films that will appeal to younger people, but it’s for the whole community. Hopefully we’ll have people from all backgrounds but we’re highlighting black films because sometimes you have to wait a long time for a significant number of black actors to be in a film.”
“We’ll be doing films for children in the cycle, conscious films, comedies, a whole range of genres and new films as well.”
On Saturday, 22nd February the club will show the children’s film The Wild Robot, an adventure film following the journey of a shipwrecked robot.
On Thursday, 20th March the club will show Babylon, a film that covers the life of a young reggae DJ in Brixton amidst racial tension and police brutality.
Oveta said: “We’re looking for people who are interested in getting involved in films, whether it’s a career or hobby, particularly young people, hopefully it will bring people together.”
She added that if tickets sell well during the pilot, which will last until 22nd March, the ECA will look to turn the club into a year-round event.
Adult tickets are £5 and tickets for children under twelve are £3. For more information about the screenings and to purchase tickets:
