As well as the Parade of Light there’ll be a funfair, market, carol signers, bell ringers, lights switch-on and fireworks
Enfield Town will be filled with Christmas joy this Sunday as the annual ‘Parade of Light’ event returns for a 13th year – including a free fireworks display.
The parade is supported by many local community groups and businesses and will feature the usual variety of eye-catching floats, carol singers and fundraising. It was first organised in 2011 and has become an annual tradition in the town.
Throughout the afternoon on Market Place there will be a mini funfair, Christmas market, food traders and entertainment. Carol singers and bell ringers will be at the bandstand. On Fountain Island Enfield Concert Band will be performing from 4.45pm until the parade arrives.
The parade itself starts at 4pm from Enfield Civic Centre before winding its way along Baker Street, Lancaster Road, Chase Side and Church Street before reaching Fountain Island. Dugdale Arts Centre is also open from 12pm-4pm with fun family activities.
The switching on of the Christmas tree lights takes place at 5.20pm and the day then culminates with an aerial fireworks display at 5.40pm, this year sponsored by Curwens Solicitors.
The parade is organised by local residents with support from The Old Enfield Charitable Trust and Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, plus several other Enfield businesses.
Enfield Council cabinet member Rick Jewell has urged residents to support the Parade of Light as well as other Christmas-themed events happening around the borough in the next few weeks. He said: “I would like to invite all residents to come and join us for our festive light switch-ons and events in our town centres. I hope that our residents will continue to support and boost local businesses by shopping locally.
“I’d like to thank local volunteers, business leaders and community groups for coming together to show how Enfield celebrates the festive season.”
