Elderly man suffers ‘life threatening’ injuries after being hit by lorry in Edmonton

The driver of the lorry was arrested on suspicion of “driving unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving”

A man in his 80s suffered “potentially life-threatening injuries” after being struck by a lorry in Edmonton yesterday (Tuesday 9th).

The incident happened at around 9am in Hertford Road, close to Forest Primary Care Centre.

The driver of the lorry was later arrested on suspicion of driving while “unfit” through drug use.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 9.05am on Tuesday, 9th June following reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian on Hertford Road, Edmonton.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and the pedestrian, a man in his 80s was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the lorry, a 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.”

Yesterday’s incident is the latest in a string of serious road traffic collisions in the borough in recent weeks. Last month, two people were killed in separate incidents in Enfield Town and Hadley Road, while there were also serious injuries caused to a group of wedding guests in Edmonton when a car ploughed into them as they stood on the pavement.
