Celebrations and competitions being held in Enfield as part of King’s coronation in May, reports Philbert Osei-Wusu

Enfield’s budding artists, creative writers and volunteers are being invited to help celebrate the historic occasion of King Charles III’s coronation next month.
Young people are being encouraged by Enfield Council to take part in coronation-themed competitions to see who can create the best portrait of the King or write an interesting royal-themed story and be in with a chance to win a prize.
Enfield libraries service will be hosting the writing competition for children aged over five and a brand-new interactive software called Scribeasy is available in hub libraries for those who would like help crafting a story. Selected winners will have their story printed in the libraries’ newsletter and in a small printed and bound book. The winner of the portrait competition, for children over ten, will be given a book voucher.
Explaining the opportunity for young people to take part in these competitions, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for culture, local economy and public spaces, Chinelo Anyanwu said: “We particularly want to see how the younger generation is interpreting this once in-a lifetime event.
“We’d love to read your stories and see your pictures and where possible, we’ll share our favourites on social media”.
Adults will also have a chance to take part in the festivities by sending in photos of their decorated homes or businesses to celebrate the historic royal weekend – the winners of best-decorated home will be given a voucher for award-winning sustainable restaurant EnFood.
On the coronation weekend itself – 6th and 7th May – people can volunteer with one of the events being hosted by Enfield’s friends of parks groups. There will also be a ‘big lunch’ hosted by local charities at Enfield Charter Market, while Platinum Academy of Performing Arts will be running a family fun day at Millfield Theatre in Edmonton.
Cllr Anyanwu added: “Communities and neighbourhoods in Enfield are being encouraged to get involved with the celebrations in a range of ways, either a family get-together or through larger community events. Or perhaps you would like to volunteer and create a lasting legacy within your community. However you decide to celebrate, we hope it will be a weekend to remember.”
