Lewis Toumazou from Fore Street For All previews the community interest company’s next monthly event in Angel Edmonton
At Fore Street For All CIC we are organising a free event to celebrate women in Edmonton and explore the subject of women’s safety in public spaces.
Women’s safety in public spaces is a longstanding national and local issue. Many female and non-binary residents of Upper Edmonton sadly feel unsafe along the high street and local area, especially at night.
‘Spaces for Women’ is being held on Thursday (6th April) and aims to create a safe space for people to come together and listen to one another. We wish to build a constructive dialogue to consider ways to move forward to help tackle some of the local issues women face.
The evening is open to everyone and will feature art, poetry, workshops, free food, live music, short film screenings and more.
Highlights include a panel discussion on women’s safety in public spaces, from 7.30pm-9pm, chaired by The Daughters United. The panel features ward councillor Margaret Greer, police officer Lynsey Murphy, artist Claudia Clare and Fore Street For All director Cellina Momodu Doswell.
There will also be a ceramics collection exploring the sex trade by artist Claudia Clare, screen prints created by local women from Edmonton, spoken word and poetry performances (from 4.30pm-6.50pm) celebrating women and exploring the issue of women’s safety in public spaces, plus live music from Lyric Deep Ltd at The White Horse pub (9.45pm-10.30pm).
Spaces for Women takes place at Fore Street Library on Thursday 6th April, 4.30pm-11pm. Find out more:
