Thirty trees have been planted in the shape of a heart to form Enfield Living Memorial with an artwork now also being installed
A memorial dedicated to local people lost during the Covid-19 pandemic is set to be inaugurated at Town Park in Enfield – as a new artwork is also unveiled.
Enfield Living Memorial is a community-led project aiming to provide a space to remember all those lost locally to coronavirus since 2020. With 30 trees now planted in the shape of a heart, and a new permanent artwork in its centre, the inauguration event is open for anyone to attend.
The project has been facilitated by a group of community partners, led by the Soroptimist Club of Enfield, working with local artist Joe Robinson. Funding came from the public and local groups and businesses, with financial support from the Lottery Community Fund.
The artwork which will be unveiled at the event on Sunday, 24th September is designed to represent a phoenix, which offers a symbol of loss and renewal. The sculpture’s design is a triptych, cut in special steel. It will stand about two meters high.
From 1pm the artwork will be open to view and visitors can write a message for those they lost during the pandemic. At 2pm there will be speeches and a choral performance.
