A community group organising a Windrush Day Celebration in Pymmes Park this month is also planning a “special unveiling”.

Described as “a vibrant community event honouring the legacy, resilience and cultural impact of the Windrush generation” the event takes place on Monday, 22nd June from 2pm-4pm.

This year’s celebration will be especially memorable as organisers We Unite unveil the “UK’s first solar‑powered talking bench”, created to honour the Windrush generation and share their stories in a “truly innovative way”.

The event is free but registration is required.

Organisers say: “Join us for an afternoon filled with music, delicious food, legacy tree planting, bench unveiling and awesome stories that bring the community together.

“It’s a perfect chance to connect, learn, and have a blast honouring this incredible part of history. Don’t miss out on the fun and good vibes at the Windrush Celebration!”
