Southgate District Civic Voice is hosting a “glorious weekend of creativity, music and fitness” at a local pocket park.

As part of the ‘Southgate Celebrates’ weekend, an arts and creativity day from 10am-4pm on Saturday 16th will be followed by a music and fitness day from 10am-2pm on Sunday 17th.

The first day kicks off at 10am with Ben Nathan from Pinhole London hosting his pinhole photography workshop, where visitors can “capture and develop your own pinhole photograph using traditional darkroom techniques” and “watch the magic unfold as your image emerges in the developing solution”.

Then from 12pm on the Saturday, Poppy Kanu will lead a “peaceful writing workshop” with visitors invited to “explore poetry in an accessible way in this one-off writing workshop”, where “we will gather as a group to read poetry, discuss and then write in an informal and non-judgemental space”.

Rounding off the first day, from 2pm, Claire Gayle will be leading a drop-in art workshop that will allow people to “capture the soul of Southgate, in your own custom print”.

On the Sunday, from 10.15am, there will be live music from the New River Dixielanders, who will be performing their “unique blend” of Dixieland jazz. In between sets, at 11am and 12.15pm, the team from Protofit will be hosting “two research-informed strength tests: the grip strength hold and the goblet squat hold, designed to highlight key markers of lower body strength and long-term health”.

Finally, from 1pm on the Sunday, Ps and Qs Live Band will be performing “modern classics and timeless favourites”.

The pocket park is located on the south side of Southgate Station.
