A social enterprise is hosting the first of a new series of monthly markets in Enfield Wash this Sunday (26th).

London’s Community Kitchen is promising a “vibrant day of local stalls, food, crafts, and community spirit” at Albany Park where visitors can “discover handmade goods, delicious treats, and friendly faces — all in one place”.

Albany Park Bazaar runs from 11am until 4pm and will become a regular event held on the last Sunday of every month.

Chetan Patel from London’s Community Kitchen told the Dispatch: “People will be selling their own homemade products and there will be local DJs and food vendors.

“It is about bringing the community together.”

The community interest company, based in Harrow, has recently expanded its operations into Enfield after being approached by Enfield Council to help run a café in the park, next to the former bowling green.

Alongside Albany Park Community Café, London’s Community Kitchen is planning a long-term programme called ‘Urban Farmer Village’, which will utilise nearby allotments to teach local school pupils about food growing as well as cooking meals using ingredients they have harvested themselves.

Cooking workshops will be hosted inside the café, described as “a pioneering community hub where food, learning, nature, and innovation thrive side by side”.

Explaining the background to it, Chetan said: “We were approached by Enfield Council two years ago to help unite the community.

“We have got a cookery school and academy in Harrow for people struggling to get into education, and we have got growing spaces and surplus food markets. We do various things across the borough. We are like a foodbank but with a more holistic approach.”

The ‘Urban Farmer Village’ is itself set to launch in Albany Park later this year.
