A free talk exploring the history of “London’s secret canal” is taking place in Enfield on Wednesday (11th).

Local historian Jim Lewis, who has published numerous books on the Lea Valley and its industrial history, will be discussing how the River Lee Navigation played a crucial role in the development of the places it runs through, including Enfield Lock, Brimsdown, Ponders End and Edmonton.

The event is being hosted by Edmonton Hundred Historical Society (EHHS) at Jubilee Hall in Parsonage Lane, Enfield, from 8pm.

Dr Lewis is a researcher and broadcaster and, in 2012, was appointed contributory international professor by the Clark H Byrum School of Business at Marian University, Indianapolis. Dr Lewis is also president of the EHHS.

Wednesday’s event is the latest to raise awareness of the Lee Navigation this year, with both a photography project and a summer fun day taking place this summer.

‘London’s Secret Canal – The River Lee Navigation’ takes place this Wednesday (11th) from 8pm at Jubilee Hall, Parsonage Lane, Enfield EN2 0AJ. For more information:
